NEWS UPDATES:

In epic battle, charity wins

Professional figure skater Ashley Clark leads professional skier and novice ice skater Zach Crist, above, through a performance Friday night during the Battle of the Blades benefit competition at the Sun Valley Ice Rink. Clark and Crist—skating to benefit the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation—won first place in the event organized by the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club. Nine teams of local amateurs paired with professional skaters competed in the Battle of the Blades. The teams were ranked by scores from a panel of three celebrity judges—Olympic gold-medal snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington, professional ice skater Craig Heath and professional skier Langely McNeal—and the volume of applause from the lively crowd. Second place went to the team of amateur Emilie DuPont and professional Joel Dear. Third place went to the team of amateur Maggie Acker and professional Brent Bommentre. Photo by Roland Lane
