John Louis Bazovsky lost his long battle with cancer, in his Hailey home, the early morning of Aug. 28. He was 65 years young.
John was born Nov. 22, 1948, in London to Igor and Drahomira Bazovsky. His family moved to the United States when he was 8 years old.
John attended schools in London, Seattle, Boston, and Woodland Hills, Calif. He was a graduate of Taft High School and California State University-Northridge. John came to Sun Valley in the early 70s to ski, and like so many, he stayed. Hailey was John’s home for over 40 years. He loved Idaho more than any place he had lived; he noted, “The American West is a crown upon the earth, and Idaho is the gem in that crown.” John enjoyed the outdoors, early hiking in the Sierras, the Northwest Territories and the Sawtooths. He loved camping, fishing, canoeing and gardening. His career of choice was building. He was a master finish carpenter. He expressed that the best time in his life was building his home, with and for his wife, Sandi. He will be remembered for his knowledge of history, his stories, his craftsmanship, his tree planting (known as “The Bazovsky National Forrest”) and, of course, as a great party host.
John leaves behind his wife, Sandi, as well as his stepson Cortney Gillett (Ythzel); sister Eva Booth; brother Igor Bazovsky Jr; two nephews, John and Don Booth; a niece, Tina Booth; two grandchildren, Jaxon and Ruby Balmer; four cats; and his dog Vladimir. He was preceded in death by his parents.
As per John’s request, there will be a private family memorial and a celebration of life in the spring. The family would like to express their gratitude to his medical team, Dr. Tom Archie, St. Luke’s Home Health and Wood River Hospice. Thank you for your care and compassion. John’s final care was entrusted to Wood River Chapel.
