NEWS UPDATES:

Have Pond, Will Skim

Video by David Butterfield Hemingway Elementary student Wyatt Minor, aka “Captain Underpants,” 9, skims across a manmade pond Sunday at Dollar Mountain to the approval of hundreds of onlookers. The smaller of Sun Valley’s two ski mountains closed for the season with a bang. An old ski resort tradition of pond skimming celebrated a busy, successful season at Dollar. Skiers and boarders descended the lower third of the mountain and hopped into the 60-foot-long, 3-foot-deep pond holding 6,000 gallons of water. Participants attempted to make it across the trench and pop out the other side without falling. Judging measured skimming style, best crashes and quality of costume. Photo by Willy Cook
