Climbs ladder at Snowbird

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation alpine racer Harlan Collins saved his best effort of the 2009-10 season for the final Intermountain Cup races—the Last Chance slaloms April 2-4 at Snowbird, Utah.

Collins, 16, posted three consecutive fifth-place overall slalom results in the 100-racer field along with a bronze medal J2 finish in Saturday's two-run race. In a field of men dominated by Utah racers, Collins stood tall in the SVSEF travel squad of 14.

Sunday, Collins was only .79 seconds off the winning time of Snowbird's Bronson Wright on the Wilbere Ridge slalom course. Other highlights came in J3 boys, where KJ Savaria (7th overall), Kipling Weisel (12th) and Ben Kanellitsas (21st) placed 1-2-4 in the J3 class Friday.
