The Blaine County School District announced Tuesday that Wood River High School Principal John Blackman has been selected as assistant district superintendent.

Board Clerk Laurie Kaufman said Blackman's selection was made unanimously at a noon meeting of the district board of trustees.

The appointment becomes effective July 1. Kaufman said Blackman's main duties will be as chief academic officer and as director of human resources.

Kaufman said Blackman has been employed by the school district for 26 years. Before being appointed high school principal, he worked as a teacher and coach.
