Benefits cost too much

I saw a poster in the Ketchum Post Office advertising the Furball, a Wood River Animal Shelter sponsored event, and was really excited about it, especially with the affordable price tag of $20. I thought, "Finally, a decent priced fundraising event so all the Wood River Valley residents could take part in a wonderful cause."

I then saw it advertised in the Mountain Express with a price tag of $30. So I called the number for details and yes, they needed to raise the price of the tickets due to Steve Miller and Bruce Willis' band playing and lowered the number of tickets available for sale. I was so disappointed. I have lived here for 18 years and never have been able to afford to go to any fundraising event due to the high price tags.

Not only the super-wealthy want to help with these causes. Well, I hope the Animal Shelter did well with the Furball. I think if they had a Wood River Valley band perform for the event, they could have kept the admission price down and more of us year-round worker types could have afforded this benefit. Perhaps some fur for thought for next year.
