Sign up for BCRD programs today in Hailey

Baseball, softball, track and more


The Blaine County Recreation District will host a registration night for its 2010 spring and summer programs today, Wednesday, April 7 from 4:30--6:30 p.m. at The Community Campus in Hailey.

Registrations will be accepted for BCRD t-ball, baseball and softball, track and field, BCRD Day Camp, BCRD aquatics programs and adult fitness classes.

Other providers include Sun Valley Taekwondo, Footlight Dance Centre, Spirit N Motion Athletic School, Wood River Gymnastics Academy, Mountain Rides and more.

Youth activities will be offered including the BCRD Bounce House, batting cage and games in the HUB Youth Center. Call 788-2117 or visit bcrd.org for more details.

Youth baseball, softball sign-ups

Besides Wednesday's sign-ups, there are two important dates coming up for the BCRD youth coed baseball and softball programs.

Mandatory skills evaluations are Thursday, April 8 and Monday, April 12 for youth baseball (boys and girls of all abilities ages 5-12, or 5-13 girls). Site is Nelson Field in Hailey starting at 5:15 p.m. each day. Attendance to only one evaluation day is required for program participants.

In addition, Monday's session at 5:15 p.m. is the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run event for ages 7-13 at Nelson Field. Local winners can advance to sectional competition.

There will also be an equipment swap Monday. Tables will be set up for donations. Drop off what you no longer use and take what you need, for free. Representatives of Donnelley Sports of Twin Falls will attend Monday with a trailer of new baseball and softball gear for sale.

BCRD's youth program (fee $55 includes hat and shirt, $65 late sign-ups) is divided into these classes:

Player Pitch Coed Baseball (ages 11-12, 9-10), practices begin April 19, season ends the week of June 7. Coach Pitch Coed Baseball (ages 7-8), practices begin May 3, season ends the week of June 25. And Coed T-Ball (ages 5-6), practices begin May 17, season ends the week of June 23, entry fees $45, $55 late.

Player Pitch Girls Softball (11-13), practices begin May 4, season ends the week of June 25. Machine Pitch Girls Softball (7-10), practices begin May 4, through June 25.

Track and field program starting

BCRD's three-week youth track and field program for boys and girls in grades 1-8 is starting the week of Monday, April 12. It concludes with the Blaine County/Hershey Track and Field meet May 1 in Carey.

Twice-weekly practices are held after school at Blaine County public schools—Wood River Middle School, Carey School, and Bellevue, Woodside, Hailey and Hemingway Elementary schools. Cost is $30 with last year's t-shirt, $35 without, or $20 and $25 if you're from Carey.
