Runners take to the trails

269 finish Backcountry Run

Many of Idaho’s best cross-country runners were in Ketchum Saturday morning for the 22nd edition of the Backcountry Run sponsored by The Elephant’s Perch. A total 269 runners finished the 16.5-mile and 10-mile jaunts on trails north of town. Among the leaders are, from left, Jed Tukman of California (10th at 16.5 miles), Angenie McCleary of Ketchum (3rd woman at 10 miles), Cynthia Mauzerall of Boise (women’s 10-mile winner), Tom Liby of Boise (men’s 10-mile runner-up) and the amazing Michelle Jensen of Boise, who pulled away to finish third at 16.5 miles in an incredible 1.59:27 time.  Express photo by Willy Cook
