A Sidecar Named Desire
Bellevue resident Mark Sheehan rides his 1983 Honda Silverwing GL 650 with his Russian-made Dneper sidecar through downtown Ketchum last weekend. He rides the sturdy vehicle?which has a studded rear drive wheel?all year long. ?If it?s four inches or more of new snow and all tracked up, I won?t saddle up,? he said. He gets lots of thumbs-up and positive comments when pulling into public spots such as the post office, he noted. ?Mostly, I can dress for the weather with all that mountaineering gear that I have collected over the years.? Sheehan feels that winter riding is a form of therapy, and quoted a sidecar creed he read somewhere: ?Life is uncertain, death is for sure, work is the reason, wind is the cure.? Since he gets 35 miles per gallon, there is some reason behind his immense smile. Photo by Willy Cook
