Debate team wins
state trophyFrom Wood River
Hard work and smarts guided the Wood River High School debate team coached by Tim Neville to a state championship title sweepstakes trophy Saturday in Pocatello.
Wood River defeated nine other debate squads to bring the state trophy back to Hailey.
Outstanding policy debaters on the Hailey title team were Kyle Risner, Brandon Epp, Jacob Chaney, Devin Sheffield, Lisa Feldhusen, Brittany Jones, Ryan Chandler, Gavin Kastner, William Hemmings and Andrew McCollum.
Earning individual state medals were Epp, Risner, Sheffield and Chaney in policy debate and Hemmings in the Lincoln-Douglas category.
Neville’s Wood River program also won the State Class B sweepstakes trophy in 1993, 1997 and 1998, and Hailey High School won Open in 1952-53.
