Squirts score up a storm in Idaho Falls

Youth hockey weekend


    Scoring in bunches, Sun Valley Youth Hockey Squirts (ages 9-10) won four games by a 38-10 margin Friday through Sunday in a series of games against Idaho Youth Hockey Association teams in Idaho Falls.
    The Squirts outshot four opponents 95-62 and amassed six power-play goals. Goalies were Clayton Elsbree (15 saves), Max Jensen (25 saves), Russell Stumph (4 saves) and Jake Nikolaisons (8 saves).
    Deke Burrell, who tallied 11 goals in four games, got the scoring surge off and running with four goals Friday in an 11-4 win over Squirts House Blue. The young Suns had seven dif-ferent goal scorers and outshot the Blue skaters 28-19.
    Goalie Jensen came up big Saturday when Idaho Falls Squirts House White out-shot the Suns 28-15 and Jensen stopped 25 of those 28 shots in a 9-3 Sun Valley triumph. Burrell got his second hat trick with two power-play goals in the third period.
    Slater Whitehead, Zach Ben-son and Burrell had two goals apiece as the Squirts romped 9-1 over Idaho Falls Red later Saturday, with three power-play scores. Sunday’s finale was a 9-2 Suns win over Squirts House Green, as the Sun Valley skaters boasted a 20-10 shots edge.
    Weekend scoring for the 16-team Squirts travel squad: Deke Burrell 11 goals/1 assist, Colby Speth 2/6, Slater White-head 4/3, Finn Naghsh 5/1, Zach Benson 5/1, Max Jensen 1/2, Sebastion Buxton 1/2, Alex Lengyl 2/1, Clayton Elsbree 3/0, Ashton Tanner 1/1, Jake Nikolaisons 1/1, Wilson Web-ster 1/0 and Russell Stumph 1/0.
    Others on the roster were Maddie Gittins, Penelope Weekes and Caroline Seaward.
