“Paint the Town” for Saturday’s 5k run

    Throwing non-toxic colored powder on fun runners during a community event has become pretty popular over the last several years, according to Wood River High School incoming senior Janel Passey.
   Passey, 17, a member of Wood River’s cross country and track and field teams, is organizing her senior project as a fun run designed to be a “celebration of colors” over the Fourth of July holiday.
   Called “Paint the Town 5k,” Passey’s project scheduled for Saturday, July 6 at 8 a.m. will also raise money for Higher Ground of Sun Valley and Girls on the Run. Start and finish is at Wood River High School.
   The 3.1-mile loop course on paved roads in the Foxmoor area of Hailey will bring runners back to the starting line three times, including the finish. Passey and her cohorts plan to sprinkle colored powder on the runners when they start the run and each time they pass through the staging area.
   Passey’s Rule No. 1 is—Wear a white shirt. And her Rule No. 2 is—Be ready to be plastered in color. The first 200 runners who register will be guaranteed their own individual packets of powder to throw.
   Cost is $20 adults, $10 youth 17-and-under, and $40 for a family of four. Register at imathlete.com/events/PaintTheTown5k. Race day registration will be accepted between 7-8 a.m. on July 6, but the fees will increase $5, or $10 for families.
