Another winning season for WRHS swim girls

Victory in Twin Falls

With a commanding win at the Twin Falls Invitational Oct. 12, the Wood River High School swimming girls achieved their 10th winning season in a row in regular high school season competition.

Coach Brian Gallagher praised his WRHS girls who led the final scoring by over 100 points against 15 high school swim teams in the Twin Falls meet. Twin Falls took second and Idaho Falls third.

The Wood River boys with only two swimmers competing, placed 11th as a team at Twin.

Leading the Wolverine girls with two individual wins apiece were:

Junior Kaedi Fry in 100 free and 100 breast, sophomore Maddie Johnson in 100 fly and 100 back, and freshman Chiloe Spelius in 200 I.M. and 500 free.

     Other top finishes included:

Sophomore Olivia Wentzell 2nd-50 free and 5th-100 free; freshman Katherine Lemma 2nd-100 free and 3rd-100 free; sophomore Ashley Dreyfus 3rd-100 breast and 6th-100 fly; senior Lisa Hart 7th-200 free and 14th-100 breast; senior Mia Smith 16th-100 breast; senior Addy Gage 5th-200 free and 13th-100 free; and freshman Danielle Doerflein 7th-100 breast and 16th-100 free.

The Wood River girls won all three relays.

They were 200 medley (Fry, Wentzell, Johnson, Dreyfus); the 200 free (Johnson, Lemma, Fry, Spelius); and 400 free (Lemma, Wenzell, Dreyfus, Spelius).

Coach Gallagher praised seniors Logan Johnston and Brandon Yagla who swam personal best times against a strong boys’ field. Yagla posted his first win in 50 free and added 5th in 100 free. Johnston was 4th in 200 free and 6th in 100 Free.

Gallagher will take his qualified Wolverine squad to regional championships Saturday, Oct. 26 in Idaho Falls followed by the State High School Championships in Boise Saturday, Nov. 2.

So, in the next two meets, the Wood River girls will defend their regional and state championships.
