Theater fundraiser promises fiendish fun

    Want to give life without giving up an organ?
    The nexStage Theatre’s third annual Murder Mystery Fundraiser is one way to give life-changing support to programs that are vital to a community’s health.
    Studies have shown that young people who are rich in the dramatic arts are stronger and more confident than those who don’t, and the Ketchum theater delivers that enrichment year-round, from summer camps to acting classes and productions—the caliber of which usually mean a sell-out audience. Adults pursue their crafts through the Laughing Stock Theatre Co., play readings, improvisation classes, much of which is provided free or for a reasonable charge with scholarships and various student and teacher rates.
    On Saturday, Oct. 5, the nexStage brings another gruesome crime caper over dinner.
    Guests will be a part of a studio audience at a TV talk show with host Barry West and his special guests—the cast of a hugely popular 1957 television show called “Make Way For Winky.” Sip a champagne cocktail with both eyes open while meeting the host and his guests and get involved as the classic murder mystery unfolds.
    The show stars Claudia McCain, Cathy Reinheimer, Keith Moore, HollieAnn Hatch, Levie Smith and Doug Neff. It is directed by Patsy Wygle. The story goes like this: Everyone’s favorite 1950s TV family is here to relive their fame of yesteryear and give an update on what is going on in their lives today. If anything happens, like, perhaps, someone dropping dead “live” on the show, the local police department is going to need help in solving the murder. At the end of the second act, they’ll ask for your guess as to who committed the crime and what their motive was.
    Form a team or join one when you get to the theater, and become a “private eye” for the night.

    Audience members are asked to come dressed in 50s costumes, so break out those poodle skirts, get that Elvis haircut working and you might win a prize. James Dean, Marlon Brando, Elvis Presley, Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn were all an iconic part of the 50s era, so be as glamorous or smoldering as you like.

    This nexStage Theatre “Fatal Fifties” fundraising event starts at 6 p.m. at the theater at 120 S. Main St. in Ketchum. Tickets for the entire evening are $75 each, with groups of six or eight receiving a $50 discount at $400 or $550 respectively.
    Tickets include hors d’oeuvres and champagne in the lobby when you arrive, a scrumptious buffet dinner catered by the Sawtooth Club, wine and beer for each table, prizes for best costumes and awards for the first team to correctly solve the mystery.
