LOT for air will benefit valley locals

In the 19 years I have called Ketchum home, this is the first time I have felt compelled to write a letter to the Mountain Express.
I moved here “for a season” and never left. Sound familiar? I have joined the Ketchum Tourism and Jobs Initiative because I believe the 1 percent local option tax (LOT) for air service will benefit everyone in our valley. Healthy tourism means we all win. I have worked at the Casino since I moved to the valley in 1994 and many of my customers are locals. I see it every shift: When we have good numbers of people visiting our community and other businesses in town are doing well, the locals have money to spend at the Casino. If locals are doing well, I am busy.
I truly believe a rising tide will float all boats. The LOT will ensure flights to Friedman and, more importantly, will help market these flights to new visitors. I do not believe the LOT is a “cure all,” but more funds for marketing is very important to our community right now.  This is the best available tool to improve our economy.
On Nov. 5, we can all choose to ensure a vibrant future for our community by voting in favor of the LOT.
