New park makes a splash

Youngster Holden Kleiner, of Ketchum, cools off in the new Hemingway Splash Park opened by the city of Ketchum on Wednesday afternoon. Mayor Randy Hall led a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new park, located at Atkinson Park, south of Hemingway Elementary School. Former Ketchum Parks and Recreation Director Kirk Mason initiated the capital improvement project in 2006, but the economic recession caused the project to stall. The necessary funds to complete the project came from the city of Ketchum’s savings from its contract with the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office to provide police services for the city.
