Scott USA leads going into Town Series finale

Logjam among top teams on Baldy

Scott USA will be looking for back-to-back Sun Valley Town Series team championships when the seven-week series of Wednesday dual modified giant slalom races wraps up March 27 on Baldy.

Topping the 35-team field with a 2.26 cumulative score, Scott USA is poised to defend its title in two weeks when the two-run combined finale of the 22nd annual series is staged.

But the leaders, featuring John Zuck, John Reagle, Toby Arnett and Jeff Page, are finding that seven other teams in the 35-team field are nipping at their heels after Wednesday’s Week 6 races for 121 skiers. Five of those teams punched out 0.00 afternoons to pull closer to Scott USA.

Greatful Shred with Jerry Mitchell, Randy DuBois, Tommy Richardson and Penelope Murray is tied for second place at 3.00 and would like to move up from last year’s third-place finish. Corduroy Is for Pants: “PKs” with Tyler Chandler, Charlotte Gourlay, Alex Jackson and Christy Luby is tied for second at 3.00—and now has four 0.00 outings in five tries.

Other challengers are Casino Dancing Bears 3.42, All 4 All 4.40, Shot Skis 4.43, early-season frontrunners The Sofa Kings 4.87 and Tall Tecates with Lime 4.98.

You want to land in the top five of this year’s 35 teams since the names of 20 racers from that group are entered into a drawing for the grand prize of four Sun Valley 2013-14 season ski passes.

Carl Rixon Jr. (24.19 seconds) of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation team was once again Wednesday’s leader ahead of Arc Park’s Miles Fink-Debray (24.37) and Arc Park’s Robin Sarchett (24.76). Other quick racers in the best of two runs format:

4—Nate Schwing (SVSEF) 25.28. 5—Erika Hogan (SVSEF) 25.75. 6—Joe Atwood (The Hos from Sturtos) 25.91. 7—Tyler Chandler (Corduroy) 25.99. 8—Jim Grossman (Ski Tek) 26.00. 9—Cam Fraser (Apple’s) 26.03. 10—John Campbell (All 4 All) 26.04.

Rabbit was Kevin Doyle (Casino Dancing Bears) at 33.85 for 61st place.

Final date is March 27 (combined two runs, party and awards at Apple’s Bar & Grill).
