Cordeau, Bourret among top mogul racers in Vermont

Sun Valley’s Shane Cordeau, 26, and former Sun Valley racer Austin Bourret, 21, of the Park City (Utah) Freestyle Team placed fourth and fifth in Friday’s 57-racer field of a Nor-Am moguls race at Stratton Mountain, Vt. It was the best-ever moguls result at the Nor-Am level for Boise State University student Bourret. Cordeau was second in Saturday’s dual moguls and Bourret 19th.

 

Skiers qualify for U-18 nationals, Western Regions

Nineteen Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation alpine ski racers have made the grade for the USSA Marriott Alpine U-18 (ages 16-17) National Championships March 7-12 at Mammoth Mountain, Ca. and the Western Region Junior Championships March 5-10 at Mission Ridge, Wash.

( U-18 Nationals: Eight SVSEF racers were chosen among 35 from the Western Region for the Mammoth trip. They were Linnea Baysinger, Kyla Miller, Mackenzie Bachmeier, Jordan Fitzgerald, Kipling Weisel, KJ Savaria, Parker Scott and Will Harder.

( Western Region finals: Jenna Jansky, Ali Gunesch, Taylor Gilliam, Amanda Stelling, Sofi Leroux, Tanner Josey, Ben Kanellitsas, Garrett Lodge, Logan Shipley, Payton Anderson and Marc Leroux.

 

High school hockey team heads to IAHA state tourney

The Sun Valley Youth Hockey high school hockey team is among 12 teams in the 12-team Idaho Amateur Hockey Association (IAHA) state high school tournament March 8-10 at Ice World in Boise. Sun Valley plays Salmon Friday, March 8 at 9 p.m., then goes against Skyline of Idaho Falls Saturday at 10 a.m. and Boise on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.

 

Lacrosse Parent/Player meeting tonight

Interested high school players and parents are invited to a Wood River Lacrosse Parent/Player organizational meeting today, Wednesday, March 6 at 6 p.m. in Hailey’s Community Campus Minnie Moore Room. You’ll meet the coaches, get information on season practice and game schedule, fill out your registration forms and hear about the gear swap. SVSEF Nordic alumni at NCAA finals

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation cross-country ski alumni Sloan Storey, Makayla Cappel, Annie Pokorny and Miles Havlick are competing in the 60th NCAA Nordic Ski Championships March 6-9 at Vermont’s Middlebury College.

 

More World Masters, Birkie

Other American Birkebeiner 54-kilometer classic finishers in Wisconsin Feb. 23 from the Wood River Valley were Tullio Celano (2nd Men’s 70-74) and Marilyn Celano (15th Women’s 60-64);

Winning three medals apiece at the World Cup Nordic Masters competition in Italy Feb. 16-22 were Norman Clark, Charley French (3 golds), Joanne Davis and Kelly Allison.

 

Sun Valley B+ Hockey League results

Here are Sun Valley B+ Hockey League results from Sunday, March 3 at Sun Valley Skating Center. There will be no games Sunday, March 10:

Aardvarks (8-3-3, 19 points) defeated Hutch’s Bad Dogs (7-5-2, 16 points) by a 6-3 score and clinched first place into the league tournament starting Sunday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. At that time Aardvarks will play No. 6 seed Flounders.

Aardvarks goal scorers were Clark Shafer (2), Eric Wingard, Bags Brokaw, Will Hemmings and Ian Root. Meri Whitehead had 2 assists. For Hutch’s, Rob Prew had 2 goals and 2 assists, and Todd Avison added a goal.

Vipers (8-6-0, 16 points) slipped past Sharks (6-8-0, 12 points) by a 4-2 score on goals by Jim Laski, Dan Choma, Biche Rudigoz and Clark Shafer. Scoring for Sharks were Chris Corwin and Todd Avison.

Playing to a 5-5 tie were Flounders (4-8-2, 10 points) and Rockets (5-6-3, 13 points). Scoring Flounders goals were John Baker, Jeff Ballou, Sean Murphy, Chris Peterson and Chris Salvatierra. Rockets goals came from Tim Jeneson, Mark Johnson, Ken Pratt, Kevin Lenane and Bryan Speth.
