State shouldn’t reward animal abusers

As an avid outdoorsman and Idaho Fish and Game lifetime license owner, I enjoy the great opportunity to hunt and fish in Idaho, but I am writing to express my opposition to the HJR 2, otherwise known as the hunting and fishing amendment.

Why would I oppose this? Idahoans do not deserve nor are they responsible enough to have a guaranteed right to hunt, fish and trap.

This past weekend, I enjoyed a nice day of fishing on the Snake River that provided some big smiles with the big fish caught and laughing at the hunters shooting at waterfowl way out of range. At the end of the trip we returned to the parking area near the access point to find a cute, furry coyote lying on the ground. He had a gorgeous coat that reminded me of the many very hairy loveable dogs my friends own. He was also dead. Shot and worse yet, the poacher had scalped his ears off and left his lifeless body to rot.

It sickens me to think that our frivolous state Legislature would grant a constitutional right to a person who would do such a thing to an animal. That isn’t the act of someone who is responsible enough to be given a constitutional right to hunt, fish or trap in Idaho. Idahoans should not have a right to hunt, fish or trap if they cannot be compassionate, respectful and responsible conservationists.

All living creatures deserve a chance to live and not be killed for the simple thrill of killing and having their ears scalped. I know there are some wonderful conservationists in Idaho, but until all hunters in Idaho can respect the living creatures they hunt, no Idahoan deserves that constitutional right. Not one.

Please vote no on HJR2.
