Zumba classes and X-rated lyrics

I have always loved Ketchum and its surrounding valley and use to live here with my children. I returned this year as a visitor who wanted rest, peace and recreation.

I rented a condo a block from Atkinsons' and the civic center. Although the parking lot across from Atkinsons' has become cosmetically a charming town square, its use has morphed for many hours a week into a stage for loud music amplified by sound systems projecting noise across blocks of the community.

Zumba classes accompanied by shouting participants and hard-core rap music with X-rated lyrics blasted through the square as I was walking with a friend and her young children.

That cannot possibly be the environment that was envisioned by the town when the square was created. When I left Ketchum several years ago, I left a part of me.

Someday I hope to recover what was lost but it cannot be found today in or near the town square.
