Women take flight at Wildflower golf tourney

Valley Club women’s member-guest

They celebrated the virtues of airline travel during The Valley Club's Wildflower Women's Member-Guest golf tournament Aug. 2-3. Eighty-two golfers took part and enjoyed a successful "flight."

"Come Fly with Me," was the tournament theme. Club employees dressed in airline personnel uniforms that represented pilots, flight attendants and TSA agents. Even the tourney rules had an airline theme, like the "Carry On Limit" of 14 clubs for each golfer's bag.

Despite all the thematic changes compared to last year's "Happy Days 50s" theme for the same tournament, the winners remained exactly the same.

Repeating as overall champions with the lowest 36-hole net scores were member Maria Reeser and guest Jean Tagliapietra. They led all 82 players on the 41 two-person teams with scores of 63-61 for 124. Their total was six strokes clear of the next lowest team.

Barbara and Jean Smith (74-76 for 150) won low gross.

Tournament format was two-person better ball with three flights represented. Each flight crowned a net and gross champion. Other gross stroke champions were Gundl Haskell and Barbara Williams, Alice Lane and Felicie Lewis.
