WRHS racquet players tune up for weekend meet

Cutthroats clip Gooding 11-1

Tuning up for expected tough competition at the Eastern Idaho Invitational tournament April 13-14, the Wood River High School tennis team took care of Burley 12-0 Tuesday in a Great Basin Conference meet at Rupert.

Wood River (7-3 dual meets, 5-0 in league play) won all 22 sets Tuesday and enjoyed having 2010 State 4A boys' doubles champions Raleigh Grossbaum and Charlie Grabow, now seniors from Sage School, back together again.

Grossbaum and Grabow won in straight sets, and so did No. 2 boys' doubles Josh Morell and Cole Caminiti. "Lots of great matches and a real strong showing," said coach Vicki Johnston about the Wolverine effort as the team heads to Idaho Falls today.

In another match involving local players, the Community School tennis team downed the Gooding Senators 11-1 Tuesday in a 3A conference dual meet.

Cutthroat boys' singles winners were No. 1 Michael Weaver, No. 2 George Everitt and No. 3 Willis Sanchez-duPont, all in straight sets. Sweeping girls' singles were No. 1 Chloe Chrysikopoulos, No. 2 Chloe Francois and No. 3 Sydney Hagenbuch.

Girls' doubles winners were No. 1 Erin Hennessy-Ella Marks and No. 2 Jolie Blair-Taylor Figge. The Cutthroats also swept mixed doubles with No. 1 Reed Roudabush-Sara Runkel and No. 2 Nick Wright-Maddie Caraluzzi.

The winning Cutthroat boys' doubles team consisted of Ohlson-Zach Lindahl in a come-from-behind 3-6,7-6 (8), 10-6 decision.
