Reigning State 4A boys' cross country king Erik Harris, the Twin Falls High School senior, ran away with the boys' varsity title of Friday's Sun Valley Classic/Wood River Invitational 3.1-mile run at Sagewillow Farms in Elkhorn.
Harris (17:07) won the 59-runner 4A/3A boys' varsity race by nearly a minute over the Wood River second- and third-place tandem of Ben Stout (18:00) and Chase England (18:01). The girls' varsity winner by 41 seconds was Jerome senior Mikesell Clegg (21:50).
The day was cloudy, 75 degrees, with only a few sprinkles. There were 124 varsity plus 114 junior varsity runners from 18 schools. Community School runner Maranda Stopol (23:25) placed second in the 1A/2A girls' varsity footrace.
"We added middle schools this year and had 11 schools show up, and over 300 runners," said Wood River coach Monte Brothwell. "The meet was a great success thanks to our emcee (and Community School coach) Rick Kapala."
