2011 BCRD Swimming Programs


Summer swimming programs are offered by the Blaine County Recreation District at the county pool in Hailey. Anyone with questions can contact 578-2273 or, when the pool opens on Saturday, June 4, at 788-2144 (pool). The rec district's 2011 Spring and Summer Sports and Activities program guide is available at its office in the Community Campus in Hailey and elsewhere in the community. Continuing for 2011:

1—Creative playground for kids of all ages.

2—Sand volleyball courts, reservable for parties.

3—Expanded, healthier lunch menu.

4—Eat and play—a new poolside barbecue and patio to give an evening at the pool a new twist. Bring a cooler with dinner for family and friends.

5—Party rental area. The gazebo is a fun place.

6—BCRD/YMCA combo pass memberships.

7—Poolside basketball hoop.

8—Pump Park is right next door!

Registration for all aquatic programs and passes begins Tuesday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Aquatic Center. Online registration is available. No registrations will be accepted before May 31. The pool will open for the 2011 season on Saturday, June 4, which is free swim day. There will be no classes on Monday, July 4.

Aquatics orientation night will be Wednesday, April 20 at 6 p.m. at the BCRD HUB Youth Center at the Community Campus.

BLAINE COUNTY AQUATIC CENTER IN HAILEY

Open—Daily Saturday, June 4 through Saturday, Sept. 3. The facility features the main pool, a 25-yard, 6-lane heated pool, and also a 15x25 foot wading pool heated to 85 degrees.

Aquatics Director—Cameron King (Randolph) is in her fifth season at the pool, cking@bcrd.org.

Daily fees—General admission $5 adults 18-to-64, $4 seniors 65-and-up and youth 17-and-under. Infants up to 1 year old are free.

Season passes—This season's Aquatic Center season passes are priced at $185.50 family, $95.40 adult 18-and-older, $79.50 children 17-and-under and $79.50 senior 65-and-over.

Monthly passes (BCRD Aquatic Center only)—$66.78 for families (1 to 2 adults and their dependents); $34.98 adults 18-to-64; $28.62 seniors 65-and-up and youth 17-and-under.

BCRD/YMCA monthly combo passes—$174.90 for families (1 to 2 adults and their dependents); $67.84 young adults 18-to-29; $90.10 adults 30-64; $79.50 seniors 65-and-up; and $41.34 youth 17-and-under.

Free swimming day—Saturday, June 4 on Opening Day.

FAMILY LAP SWIM

A great chance to share some quality family active time.

Dates, days—June 14 through Aug. 31; Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus Sundays.

Times—6:30-7:30 p.m. on weeknights, 3:30-4 p.m. Sundays.

Age requirement—Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Provided—Kick boards, pull buoys, paddles, fins and zoomers.

OPEN SWIM

Both pools are open for everyone to splash, play and relax.

Dates—June 4 through Sept. 3.

Days, times—Mondays through Fridays from 1:10-5:25 p.m.; Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30-8 p.m.; Saturdays from noon to 3:50 p.m.; and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

WOOD RIVER DOLPHINS SWIM TEAM

A competitive recreation summer swimming league based at Blaine County Aquatic Center next to The Community Campus in Hailey. The Dolphins are the perennial Sagebrush League swimming champions, having now won five years in a row. The Aquatic Center has a 25-yard, 6-lane heated pool along with a heated wading pool, aquatic toys and trained lifeguards. To participate, children must be able to swim, unassisted, for one length of the 25-yard pool.

Dates, days—June 13 through July 30; Mondays through Thursdays, plus 6 swim meets on Saturdays at various out-of-town locations.

Eligibility—Ages 5-18 (must be able to swim a length of the pool).

Pre-season workouts—Monday through Friday, June 6-10; workouts are 3:30-4:30 p.m. for ages 5-10, and 4:30-5:30 p.m. for 11-and-up.

Regular-season workouts (starting June 13)—7:30-8:30 a.m. for ages 11-18, 8:30-9:30 a.m. for ages 8-10, and 9:00-9:30 a.m. for ages 5-7.

Sagebrush League Championships—On Saturday, July 30 at Blaine County Aquatic Center.

Fee—$175.30 per person includes all training, swim meet entries and cap—full payment due by July 11. For $238.90 per person, you get the training, cap and entries plus a season pass to the Aquatic Center (save $15 on a season pass). Fees don't include the optional team suit that can be purchased. Scholarships are available.

SWIM SCHOOL/GROUP LESSONS

Five two-week sessions at Blaine County Aquatic Center, Hailey. Class and private lessons for all ability levels.

Days—Mondays through Thursdays.

Sessions—#1 session June 13-23; #2 June 27-July 7; #3 July 11-21; #4 July 25-Aug. 4; and #5 Aug. 8-18. The two-week sessions include 30-minute lessons.

Eligibility—Boys and girls 6 months to 12 years.

Times—Classes at 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The 12 noon and 12:20 p.m. classes are for 3-year-olds, only. Every effort is made to reschedule classes canceled due to bad weather.

Class levels—From "Mommy, Daddy and Me," (6 months to 3 years) and Guppies (age 3 only) to Aquatot 4-5 and Aquatot 4-7 (non swimmers); Pre-Beginner 9-and-under; and Beginner ages 5-12. Children are placed based on age and skill level.

Teachers—All swim school teachers have been trained in current teaching techniques. Teacher/student ratios are kept low so your child receives the attention he or she deserves.

Fee—$42 per session. Registration is first-come, first-served.

Registration—Starts Tuesday, May 31 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Aquatic Center (788-2144). Payment must be received in full.
