Check out Stanley Dog Sled Rendezvous

Mushers and sled dogs from Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska and other places will compete in a variety of race events, each for a different dog class, on Saturday, March 12, and Sunday, March 13. Events will include a 60-mile race, a 40-mile race, a 20-mile race and a junior/beginner eight-mile race open to skijoring as demo. SNRA will host 2 snow adventure days

A winter ecology event for the entire family will take place on Saturday, March 19, and Wednesday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sawtooth National Recreation Area north of Ketchum. Each day will have rotating discovery stations that will include animal tracking in the snow, puppet shows, snow science experiments, arts and crafts, and scavenger hunts. Older children can enjoy snowshoeing to learn about winter habitat and wildlife. For details, call 727-5000.

Do the Boulder Backwards Classic Tour

The Elephant's Perch of Ketchum will present the Boulder Backwards Classic Tour on Saturday, March 12. The 30-kilometer tour leaves at 10 a.m. from the Sawtooth National Recreation Area headquarters north of Ketchum and finishes at Galena Lodge. The 15k tour starts at 11 a.m. from Baker Creek and ends at Galena Lodge.

A shuttle van paid for by the Perch will bring all skiers back to their vehicles at Baker Creek and the SNRA. There will be a drink station at Baker Creek. Remember to bring wax and extra fluids. Register in advance at The Elephant's Perch in Ketchum or call 726-3497.

Papoose Club to hold 55th annual Kindercup

The Papoose Club's anticipated 55th annual Kindercup will feature alpine ski races for kids ages 3-11 on Sunday, March 13, on Dollar Mountain. Register at Sturtevants in Ketchum or at Dollar Mountain. There is no entry fee. Day-of-race registration is 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Dollar Mountain Lodge. Racing begins at 10:15 a.m.

Celebrate spring at Rotarun

The Rotarun Ski Club will hold a Spring Celebration on Saturday, March 19, at Rotarun Ski Area west of Hailey from 4-9 p.m. Rotarun will be open free of charge. The lights will be on and the community can enjoy free skiing, sledding by the old rope tow and snowboarding. The club will provide burgers, hot dogs and celebration cake. Bring a vegetable, salad, chili or pasta dish.
