Carey Drives To First State Hoops Title

The Carey High School’s boys’ basketball team (24-2) earned its first-ever State 1A Division 2 tournament title Saturday with a 47-46 victory over defending champion Nezperce (16-9) at the Idaho Center in Nampa. Helping the Panthers end their season with a 17-game winning streak was junior Baley Barg, who scored a game-high 21 points with six rebounds and three steals in the title contest. Here, fearless, 5-foot, 10-inch-tall banger Barg drives past Nezperce’s 6-5 junior post Sawyer Wahl. Barg also assured Carey’s visit to state with the game-winning points in his team’s 57-56 district tournament win over Castleford on Feb. 23 at Murtaugh. Photo by David N. Seelig
