Bailey medals at Tiger-Grizz wrestling

Many of Idaho's best prep wrestlers competed last weekend in the 31st annual Tiger-Grizz Invitational two-day tournament at Skyline High School in Idaho Falls. Wood River High took nine wrestlers.

Freshman Cooper Bailey (112) along with senior Kasey Barker (189) and sophomore Jared Anderson (119) battled their way into the second day of the 32-wrestler bracket tourney. And Bailey ended up in eighth place, carrying home a Tiger-Grizz medal.

Bailey won four matches to earn his medal. Columbia High School, the two-time defending State 4A team king, won the 32-team, four-state meet with 241.5 points over Blackfoot (178) and Layton, Utah (157).

Outstanding wrestlers were Centennial's 125-pound winner Hayden Tuma in the 103-140 weight classifications and Meridian's 215-pound champion Tanner Hall in 145-285. Only one south-central Idaho wrestler earned a title—Todd Anderson of Twin Falls in the 145-pound class.

Wood River coach Shawn Huntington said, "The great thing about the tournament is that anyone who didn't qualify for the second day was put into a 'second chance tournament' Saturday. Our wrestlers in the 'second chance' did a great job—all six in the top six."

They were Tim Boyle (4th-125), Kyle Clark (6th-135), Tommy Bailey (2nd-140), Gus Conrad (3rd-145), JR Hill (6th-171) and Auden Ruhter (215).
