One of the oldest adult recreational summer soccer tournaments in the Northwest returns to Ketchum's Atkinson Park this weekend, Aug. 7-8.
The 34th annual Ketchum Classic men's tournament and the 29th annual Laurent Perrier women's soccer meet will once again be played on the Ketchum fields. Last year, Hailey hosted the two tourneys.
Ketchum's Lefty's and San Lorenzo men have combined into one team for the eight-team men's pool-play tourney that begins Saturday at 11 a.m. Lefty's/San Lorenzo plays its Saturday games at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., then has its match with Jackson Hole Sunday at 9 a.m.
Two of the four women's teams in the round-robin will come from Ketchum to join visiting squads from Boise and Jackson Hole, Wyo. Laurent Perrier is once again sponsoring the women's meet and will provide champagne to winners.
Women's games on both fields are Saturday at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. The local Laurent Perrier gals play Jackson Hole at 7 p.m. Saturday while the picnic shelter barbecue is going on. The team with the best record wins the Laurent Perrier champagne. Last year's women's winner was Paula's from Boise.
Men's games are Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the two Atkinson Park fields. Games will resume Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., with the men's championship contest at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Men's teams from Utah and Boise will join Jackson and Ketchum.
< Last year, Boise United won the men's crown 2-1 over the Boise Bosnian Jedinstvo squad.
