The long arm of the law grabbed a former Ketchum man earlier this month for allegedly violating probation for a seven-year-old felony DUI conviction.

According to court records, Steve Robert Jameson, a 40-year-old Boise resident, eluded arrest for four years before being apprehended in Boise on April 3. In 5th District Court on Monday, Judge Robert J. Elgee informed Jameson that he is charged with "absconding from probation."

The case against Jameson dates back to 2003 when he was convicted in Blaine County of felony DUI. Court records state he was sentenced to 45 days in jail and placed on three years probation. He was also given a five-year suspended prison sentence.

Elgee said at Monday's court hearing that an arrest warrant was issued in 2005 after Jameson failed to report as required to his probation officer. He was arrested on that warrant in Latah County later that year and released on $3,500 bond.

However, Elgee said, Jameson failed to appear for further court proceedings so a new arrest warrant was issued in 2006. After his arrest on April 3, Jameson posted $6,500 bond and was once again released.

Jameson pleaded not guilty at arraignment Monday and Elgee granted his request for a public defender. An evidentiary hearing was scheduled for May 10.
