The Idaho Mountain Express is at the "pinnacle" of Idaho journalism once again.

The newspaper garnered 29 awards for excellence at the annual Idaho Press Club awards banquet Saturday, April 17, in Boise.

The Express received 28 awards in individual and group categories in the club's Best of 2009 awards contest, earning the newspaper the Pinnacle Award for overall success among non-daily publications in Idaho. The Pinnacle Award is given only to two newspapers in the state, the daily and non-daily that earn the most awards in all competitive categories combined. The Idaho Statesman won the Pinnacle Award for dailies.

The Express has won the Pinnacle Award—formerly called the Sweepstakes Award—each of the last 10 years.

The twice-weekly Express took home first place in nine categories for non-dailies, including Headlines, Editorial, Special Section, Political Reporting and Business Reporting. Express reporter Trevon Milliard received the Rookie of the Year award for the best work by a new journalist.

All awards were for work done in the 2009 calendar year.

Sun Valley Guide magazine, produced by Express Publishing, took home the General Excellence award for magazines. The quarterly magazine won 10 awards at the event, including four first-place honors for writing and production.

The Weekly Paper in Hailey won one award, a second place in the Specialty Column category.
