Call for clothing designers

The Haute Trash Fashion Show Ketchum will take place Thursday, June 24, at 6 p.m. at the nexStage Theatre. The show seeks Wood River Valley participants to create one-of-a-kind wearable fashion from thrown-away items. Outfits are being brought in from San Francisco and Seattle, but there are several spaces available for local designers. Wood River Valley artist Lisa Holley and architect Tobin Dougherty with Kerstin Spindler have committed to creating garments for the show.

The Haute Trash group's designs have been shown at the Seattle Art Museum, Burning Man, county fairs and dozens of other community events across the West. Since 2002, Haute Trash has produced over 100 shows, reshaping societal views on beauty, recycling and, ultimately, trash.

Outfits are designed from an assortment of thrown-away materials such as construction fencing, food packaging, inner tubes, soda pop tops, coffee cups, plastic bags and other salvaged materials. Area artists and anyone with imagination are encouraged to create their own unique designs from nearby trash containers, using satire to highlight this unconventional approach to going green.
