With all due respect, I suggest Ms. Davis (Letters, Nov. 18) keep her concerns in Virginia. Idaho is now and always has been an agricultural state. I applaud The Community School for allowing students to participate in or not participate in the rearing and ultimate use of poultry.
Unlike Ms. Davis and her group, most Americans realize that poultry and poultry products are good, safe, inexpensive and high-quality protein sources. Those who live in California are soon to find out just how expensive Ms. Davis' concerns really are now that they have passed Prop 2. Several years ago, Sweden passed a law requiring that all chickens be raised out of battery cages. After a seven-year study, they found more disease, a higher mortality rate and lower production. The term "pecking order" isn't made up. Chickens are quite often cannibalistic.
Perhaps Ms. Davis' group has nothing to do with protecting poultry and everything to do with decided what you and I should eat.
Bravo, Community School.
