On the eve of their school campout trips, The Community School boys' and girls' soccer teams had a productive trip to Wendell Tuesday where the boys tied the Trojans 1-1 and the Sun Valley girls won 7-0.
Coach Richard Whitelaw's Cutthroat boys (2-2-1, 1-1-1 league) withstood the artillery of reigning High Desert Soccer Conference champion Wendell and escaped with the 1-1 draw. Tony Martin scored in the 49th minute to equalize for the Fish after Daniel Alvarado had put the Trojans ahead 1-0 earlier.
"Man of the Match" was senior defender Jackson Bates.
Coach Kelly Feldman's Cutthroat girls (2-3-0, 2-1-0 league) posted their second straight league shutout 7-0 over Wendell. Senior Erica Eshman recorded another three-goal hat trick while senior Nellie Brown added two goals to go with singles by junior Freya Dickey and senior Kerry Lee Nelson.
Cutthroat boys' and girls' teams return home Tuesday, Sept. 8 for league games against Bliss at Sagewillow Farms.
