A 54-year-old Ketchum man has been charged with a felony for allegedly battering his girlfriend Friday night at the couple's home on east River Street.

John A. Kocalis was charged Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court with felony domestic battery and a misdemeanor count of intentional destruction of telecommunications equipment. He was released from custody later that day after posting $10,000 bond.

Ketchum police reported that they were called to the residence around 9 p.m. Friday on a report of a "domestic disturbance in progress." Kocalis was arrested for allegedly inflicting "traumatic injuries" on the woman.

"The victim sustained injuries around her eye area and officers saw swelling and bruising," Ketchum Police Chief Steve Harkins wrote in a press release.

Harkins reported that the woman was treated at the scene by Ketchum Fire Department ambulance personnel but declined to be transported.

However, Harkins reported, Kocalis was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center for injuries sustained to his hand.

"After being released from St. Luke's, Kocalis was arrested and transported to the Blaine County jail," Harkins stated.
