Express hires new reporter

Longtime staff writer Jason Kauffman departs for Montana

By EXPRESS STAFF

Trevon Milliard

A new reporter is covering the northern Wood River Valley for the Idaho Mountain Express.

The Express last month hired Trevon Milliard to cover Ketchum, Sun Valley and Sun Valley Resort.

Milliard graduated with honors in May from the University of Montana School of Journalism. While at the university, he worked as a news editor and reporter for the school newspaper, the Montana Kaimin, and as an intern at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, a Montana daily with a circulation of more than 17,000. His work has also been published by CBSnews.com, the Missoulian (Montana), and the Billings Gazette (Montana).

Milliard was hired to fill a vacancy on the newsroom staff left by the departure of longtime Express reporter Jason Kauffman. Kauffman, an Express reporter for four years, primarily covered public lands, the environment and Blaine County government.

Kauffman has relocated to Missoula, Mont., to study in a University of Montana graduate program in environmental journalism. He won several awards for his reporting for the Express, including the J. Robb Brady Award for Environmental Journalism, issued by the nonprofit Idaho Conservation League.

Jon Duval, the newspaper's Ketchum-Sun Valley reporter since the beginning of 2008, has taken over coverage of public lands, environmental issues and Blaine County government.
