Ladies of all ages—strap on the running shoes and get together for the 5th annual Wondergirl 5k & Healthy Living Expo on Saturday, May 17, at Heagle Park in Hailey.

The run, formerly known as the Community 5k, is a popular community-wide fun run or walk open to all ages and both genders. Strollers, walkers and runners will cover the 5k in Hailey returning to Heagle Park where a Healthy Living Expo will offer information, products, inflatable games and kids' crafts from organizations all over the valley, including St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center, YAK!, Idaho's Bounty, Idaho Fizz, and Council Circle Foundation.

The event will benefit the nonprofit organization Girls on the Run of the Wood River Valley, founded by Shari Kunz in 2002. Its purpose is to promote health, awareness and self-esteem in young girls.

There are approximately 50 girls who participate in Girls on the Run each spring and fall.

"We want everyone to come celebrate the women in their lives. And to celebrate spring. It should be nice and warm," said Girls on the Run Executive Director Mary Fauth. "The race gives the girls a sense of accomplishment, after the six-week program. It's a piece of confidence they can really bring forward in their lives. Being a part of this community-wide race makes them feel they're a piece of something."

Register early and get a discount. Entrants can register online at www.girlsontherunwrv.org, or on Friday, May 16, at Atkinsons' in Hailey from 6-8 p.m. Registration fees are $20 adults, $10 youth (12-18), and $40 family (of 4).

Registration will also be available race morning from 8-9 a.m. at Heagle Park. Fees will increase to $25 adult, $15 youth, $50 family. All kids up to 10 years old registered for the race will be entered to win a kid's cruiser bike or similarly valued boy's bike donated by Sturtevants.
