Perhaps it is fitting that Jeff Cordes, sports editor of your newspaper, has turned out one of the finest reviews of my book "Sailor on Snowshoes" to date.
Jack London was a sports fan, particularly of football and boxing.
Relative to boxing, Jack, who sailed his own yacht to the South Seas, witnessed the Tommy Byrne vs. Jack Johnson fight in Australia in 1908. Not only did he attend the fight, but his wife, Charmian, did as well, being the first woman ever allowed to sit at ringside in the history of "major league" boxing in Australia. They are easily seen in movies of the fight that are still in circulation today.
