Bantams, Midget Bs wrap up hockey seasons

In Utah and Boise


Sun Valley's Midget "B" high school hockey team and the Sun Valley Bantams (ages 13-14) recently wrapped up their seasons at tournaments played in Utah and Boise.

The Midgets went 2-2 during the Idaho Amateur Hockey Association state championships in Boise Feb. 24-25. Highlight for coach Brad Dredge's squad was a decisive 5-2 victory over Idaho Falls. Peter Atkinson and Jimmy Hague each scored twice and Caleb Crawford added a single on a strong rush.

Sun Valley also rallied past Coeur d'Alene 4-2 with two third-period Atkinson goals.

Atkinson (4 goals/0 assists) led the way. Others were Jimmy Hague (2/2), Craig Watson (2/1), Jackson Bates (1/3), Caleb Crawford (1/1), Alex Baron (0/3) and Niels McMahon (0/3). David Dredge, John Dilley and Reed Stokes worked the defensive blue line. Goalie was Colby Stoecklein (99 saves for a .853 save percentage).

The Midget U16 team went 0-5 during the Great Western Showcase Feb. 17-19 at Salt Lake City. Top scorers were Nick Crosby (6/0), Jackson Bates (2/0), Morgan Pike (2/0), David Dredge (0/2), Rune Haavik (0/2), Jimmy Hague (0/1) and Zak Sjoberg (0/1).

Meanwhile, the Bantams went 0-4 with character-building 5-2, 4-1, 4-2 and 9-2 losses to Las Vegas (Nev.), Salt Lake City, Idaho Falls and Butte (Mt.) during the first annual Grizzly Cup tournament in Salt Lake City March 3-4.

Scoring summary: Nick Crosby (4/1), Anthony Martin (1/1), Alexander MacMillan (0/2), Zak Sjoberg (0/2), Cooper Hanley (1/0), Charlie Evans (1/0), Doogie King (0/1), Tommy Heinrich (0/1) and Ian Murphy (0/1). Jonathan Hobbs also skated. Goalies were Cassidy Carson and Cody Levitan.
