Figure skaters work hard, earn golds

Practice pays off with test results


Ali Butler, the only Senior-level competitive skater training in Idaho, led Sun Valley Figure Skating Club skaters who brought home five golds from the Boise Figure Skating Club's Future Champions Series competition Sept. 16-17.

Since there were no other entrants at her level, Wood River High junior Butler skated exhibition Senior short and long programs for a judge's critique using the new international judging system introduced at the 2006 Olympics.

Community School eighth grader Julianna Lamb brought home golds in the Intermediate Ladies Short Program and Intermediate Artistic. She placed fourth in Intermediate Ladies Freeskate to earn the third place overall trophy for the combined Intermediate Ladies Short and Long programs.

Devon Sherrerd, a Community School fifth grader, captured gold in Preliminary Artistic and Preliminary Showcase, as well as a fourth place in Preliminary Freeskate.

Grace Eagan, a Wood River Middle School student, earned her first figure skating gold medal in High Freeskate.

Butler and Lamb, together with Nicole Pratt and Sierra Dickens will represent Sun Valley Figure Skating Club at the 2007 Northwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Qualifying Championships in Spokane, Wash. in early October.

Several SVFSC members have also passed USFSA tests this fall. They are:

Ice dancing tests: Julia Broderick, Willow Waltz; Kayla Carrigan, Westminster Waltz Gold Dance/Juvenile Free Dance; Abby Chase, Dutch Waltz; Kathryn Dwyer, Rhythm Blues/Canasta Tango; Lauren Farr, Bronze Dance/Intermediate Free Dance; Alexandra Harten, Canasta Tango; McKinna Januz, Bronze Dance; Kelly Lotz, Rhythm Blues/Canasta Tango; Brianna Rego, Gold Free Dance; Devon Sherrerd, Hickory Hoedown; and Ashley Watson, Gold Dance.

Moves and Freeskate Tests: Taylor Figge, Pre-Juvenile Moves in The Field/Juvenile Moves in the Field; Serena Hertel, Pre-Preliminary Moves in the Field; Alyssa Krenz, Intermediate Freeskate/Junior Moves in the Field; Meredith Pintler, Preliminary Freeskate; Barbara Richardson, Adult Gold Moves in The Field; Devon Sherrerd, Juvenile Moves in the Field; and Caitlin Sholtis, Pre-Preliminary Moves in the Field.
