Fat time on tap for skinny ski set

Nordic races this weekend

If you are a nordic skier with a hankering for some competition get ready to be busier than a jail-house tattoo artist.

The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation is hosting two big events this weekend -- The Christmas Ski Athlon and the Holiday Skate Sprint Relays.

Lake Creek provides the backdrop for both events. Day of race registration is from 9-10 a.m. and racing begins at 11 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday's Christmas Ski Athlon features a classic-style mass start with a change into skating gear mid-race, just like a summer duathlon. Course distances for various age groups range from 3k to 15k. The cost is $10 for youth races and $15 for adults.

Two-person teams alternate skating laps in the Holiday Skate Sprint Relays Sunday. Lap distances are 1k with youth racers completing six laps, women eight and men 10. Entry fee is $5 for kids and $10 for adults.

For additional details, call the Lake Creek Hut, 726-3899.
