The Wood River Community YMCA will host two community open houses this month to inform local residents about the organization?s plans to develop a $16 million recreational facility in Ketchum.
The open houses are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 14, from 2:30 to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both events will be held at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum.
The events are designed to educate residents from throughout the Wood River Valley about the YMCA?s proposals and to display a site plan for a YMCA facility at the Park and Ride Lot, north of downtown Ketchum.
Visitors will be eligible to win a YMCA family membership and various prizes. Free refreshments will be served both days and a free barbecue lunch will be available on Saturday.
Individual displays will showcase the various programs and amenities planned, including an ice rink, swimming pool, climbing wall, teen center, learning center, gymnasium and indoor events center.
In addition to the open houses, the Wood River Community YMCA is holding ?coffee talks??informal discussion sessions?at 9 a.m. every Thursday morning at the YMCA office, 200 West River St., in Ketchum.
Ketchum voters will be asked on Nov. 2 whether they approve of a city plan to lease to the YMCA organization a portion of the city-owned Park and Ride Lot. The proposed lease would last 99 years at a cost of $1 per year.
