Skiers do well in
Junior Olympic races

Sun Valley and Hailey ski team racer did well and gained valuable experience at U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Western Region Junior Olympic races last week.

About 165 men and women were in action at Mammoth Mountain, Ca. in the Western Region J1/J2 Junior Olympics for skiers ages 15-18.

Hailey’s Laura Durkheimer, 17, podiumed in the J1/J2 giant slalom with a third place out of 66 starters. She finished five races in the top 15 and ended up with the silver medal in combined—helping the Intermountain Division into second place behind Far West in the divisional standings.

Up at Big Sky Resort in Montana, they staged the J3 Junior Olympic technical and super giant slalom races for 172 racers and the J4 Festival for 30 skiers in the 11-12 age class.

Sun Valley’s Lauren Eder logged the best results—a second place in SG, fourth in giant slalom and sixth in slalom out of 71 women. Dixon Mooseau of Sun Valley came up with a fourth place in super giant slalom.

Hailey’s Meghan Luck podiumed with a third-place GS during the J4 Festival. Barrett Cincotta of Sun Valley finished fourth in slalom.

The following are class placings for the Sun Valley and Hailey ski team racers at Junior Olympics:

J1/J2 Olympics: Laura Durkheimer 7-DH, 8-DH, 7-SG, 3-GS, 12-SL, 2-combined; Tracy Chubb 13-DH, 5-DH, 18-SG, 12-GS; Charlotte Gourlay 19-DH, 11-DH, 24-SG; Cassidy Doucette 28-DH, 22-SG, 9-GS.

Slater Storey 29-DH; Luke Speer 41-DH, 40-DH, 41-SG, 48-SL, 25-combined; Luke Chaney 64-DH, 53-DH, 62-SG; Kristian Timmons 69-DH, 63-DH, 53-SL; Willi Cannell 70-DH, 72-DH, 65-SG, 44-SL; Taylor Stoecklein 71-DH, 75-DH, 70-SG, 43-SL.

J3 Olympics: Lauren Eder 2-SG, 4-GS, 6-SL; Katie Rothgeb 35-SG, 41-GS; Calley Brown 40-SG, 47-GS; Alisa Durkheimer 44-SG, 40-GS.
