Hail, hail
the
gang’s all here
Two soccer games
for
Laurent Perrier women
The old
gang got together for a couple of women’s soccer games on Saturday in
Ketchum.
They were
pleasantly surprised to find they didn’t look so old. How it felt was
a completely different matter—especially the next day.

The local
Laurent Perrier women’s team hosted an All-Star squad from the Boise
area at Atkinson Park and parlayed two gritty games into a 2-2 tie and
2-1 victory.
Laurent
Perrier coach Rob Butterfield remarked (with only slight exaggeration)
"There was magnificent play from every player."
In the
opener, Boise’s Katy Derby broke through to score first.
Ketchum
answered immediately. Casey Hanrahan pulled down a chip by Katherine
Rixon and fired it past the keeper to even the score 1-1.
Never-say-die
halfback Lia Johnson headed the ball to Becky Kerns, who netted Ketchum’s
go-ahead goal in the second half, but Boise’s Cristle Wallin punched
in the equalizer to salvage a 2-all tie.

In the
second match, after a scoreless first half, Derby’s goal put Boise on
the scoreboard first. On the ensuing kickoff, Kerns ran down a long ball
by Rixon and slotted the ball to tie and keep Boise from gaining any
momentum off their goal and tip it Ketchum’s way.
Minutes
later, wily forward Kelly Kerns ripped a beautiful ball in the far right
corner for the go-ahead goal.
Led by
sweeper Jenni Conrad and stopper Margo Ros, LP’s defense held Boise at
bay to notch a 2-1 win.
Soccer
aficionado John Kirby remarked, "I thought Boise was going to win
because they have some great forwards. Ketchum came back great in the
second half."
Also
suiting up for Laurent Perrier were goalie Kelly Haisley, Lynette Kerns,
Vicki Johnston, Tizz Miller, Jody Zarkos, Amy Olson, Kyle Pribbish and
Annie Stout.
The games
were officiated by JoJo McNeal and Steve Keefer.
