Fun in the sun
Given the fact it was only The
Community School’s third 18-hole meet of the season, the Cutthroats
fourth-place finish at Sun Valley Tuesday was not too shabby.
Factoring in Sun Valley’s long
fairways and challenging terrain, the Cutthroats 399 was very
respectable. The Fish finished 20 strokes behind third-place Buhl. Declo
was runner-up at 361 and Kimberly claimed the meet with a 347.
"It’s not too bad," coach Harry
Weekes said. "For Sun Valley, which is such a tough course, and not
having played, it was okay."
Christian Cairncross was the low
man for the ‘Throats and second overall with an 84. Kimberly’s Sean
Florke was the medalist with an 82.
Regan O’Reilly placed 11th
with a 91. Fraser Donald carded 108 and Bobby Flanigan 116.
Weekes said one of the meet’s
highlights was Kimberly’s Ashley Smith firing a 39 on the front nine.
"I don’t think anyone else got a
40," he said. Sun Valley’s Rachael Becker finished with an 81.
Sun Valley will face off against
its district rivals this Tuesday, May 11 in the 2A district meet at Twin
Falls Municipal. Tee time is 9 a.m. Teams vying for the three state
berths are Glenns Ferry, Hagerman, Wendell, Oakley, Valley of Hazelton,
Magic Valley Christian. Sun Valley athletic director John Remington said
the top seven individuals also qualify for state tournament. This year’s
2A-state tilt is at River Bend Golf Course, May 17-18.
