Gourlay in JOs
At Bachelor
Turning in a lightning-quick
second run, Sun Valley Ski Team racer Charlotte Gourlay earned a silver
medal in giant slalom Sunday during the Western Region J1-J2 Junior
Olympics at Mt. Bachelor, Ore.
Gourlay, 16, led a solid 2-4-6
showing by Sun Valley women in the two-run race. Lauren Eder finished
fourth and Lauren Parsons sixth, as 52 of 65 women completed both runs.
A Wood River High School senior,
Gourlay also placed sixth in Saturday’s super giant slalom, and was 27th
in Friday’s women’s downhill at the prestigious race. She was one of the
top combined racers entering Tuesday’s slalom finale.
Racing on her home course,
Laurenne Ross, 15, of Klamath Falls, Ore. won the first three women’s
races at Junior Olympics, where 160 of the West’s best 15-17 year olds
competed.
For the 11 local men at Bachelor,
best finishes in the first three races were Kristian Timmons eighth in
super giant slalom, Cameron Minor ninth in downhill and Andrew Benson
eighth in giant slalom.
