Well done

Saturday was a clear, chilly day in Buhl, Idaho, on the upper banks of the Snake River Canyon where the State 3A Championship Soccer Tournament was to be decided. It became a trophy weekend for teams from the Wood River Valley.

The parking lot was full of 5B plates, and by the end of the day, Wood River’s youth soccer teams got the warm results they deserved. The boy’s final pitted Wood River High against its friendly nemesis, The Community School. The Wood River Wolverines prevailed and the Cutthroats brought home the runner-up trophy.

This was the Wolverines third state championship in six years. The level of play was excellent, spirited and full of good sportsmanship. Congratulations are due both teams.

The valley’s girls teams shone bright as well. Wood River High School Wolverine girls lost a heart-wrenching final game to American Falls, 3-2, taking runner-up honors. After losing a close semi-final game, The Community School Cutthroat girls won the third-place trophy. Congratulations to both teams for representing the valley so well.

Final kudos to all soccer parents, volunteers, and coaches who make this comprehensive, year-round program possible.
