Ask ’em
Election season in Hailey, Ketchum and Sun
Valley is hot.
Newcomers will challenge incumbents in
Ketchum, and Sun Valley. Hailey has a grudge match going in its mayoral race.
Lucky voters. The contests mean real
choices of leaders and often strikingly different visions for the future of our
valley.
One of the best ways voters can cut
through the fog of promises and pap is to ask questions of candidates in the
"Pizza and Politics" forums.
Hailey’s mayoral contest headlines
tonight’s event at the Old County Courthouse at 6 p.m.
Incumbent Mayor Susan McBryant wants to
retain the office to which she was appointed. Former Mayor Al Lindley is trying
to recapture the post he resigned last year in the face of sexual harassment
grievances filed by two city employees and a no-confidence vote of the City
Council.
Ketchum will see two council incumbents
face four challengers Thursday at City Hall at 6 p.m. Hot issues here include
balancing the budget and approval of a Main Street hotel.
In Sun Valley, six candidates are vying
for mayor and two council seats. They will face off Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 6
p.m. at City Hall. The city is grappling with hillside protection, community
housing, the future of five acres of land on Sun Valley Road, and Elkhorn
re-development.
Every November, voters become the most
powerful force in the nation. By participating in "Pizza and Politics" forums
voters can choose wisely.
