Ketchum Wagon
Wheelin’
Big Hitch parades again
Like a giant, serpentine creature,
the Wagon Days Parade centerpiece, the Big Hitch, snakes through the
center of Ketchum on Saturday as hoards of onlookers gather to watch. The
ore wagons used in the parade are relics from the area’s mining past. As
they were in the late-1800s, the wagons were pulled by a team of mules
that obey a peculiar system of commands to turn corners. The ore wagons
used in the Big Hitch were once used by early Ketchum entrepreneur Horace
Lewis as part of his Ketchum Fast Freight Line.
