For the week
of July 9 - 15, 2003

Folske repeats in SV Sprint Triathlon
46 individuals, 18 teams
Ketchum’s Grant Folske took off on the
bicycle and run portions and became a repeat winner of the Sun Valley Sprint
Triathlon Sunday.
Folske, 26, a North Dakotan who ran
distances at Minnesota’s Moorhead College, led all the 46 individual finishers
in the 19-mile endurance test with a final time of one hour, 10 minutes and 43
seconds.

Triathlon Sunday. Express photo by Willy Cook
He clocked the fastest 14-mile biking
split among the individuals, 32:03, and the top running time for the 4.5-mile
course, 27:12.
Folske had the fastest Sprint Triathlon
winning time in the last seven years of the July event. He was nine minutes
faster than men’s runner-up Sean Hallissey of Ketchum. Folske bettered his
winning time from 2002 by three-and-a-half minutes.

The women’s winner, and a triathlon
neophyte, was Boise’s Allison Hingtgen in 1.25:15. She edged Nicole Brown
(1.26:05) and Heidi Wilt (1.26:55). Brown improved her Sprint Triathlon time by
4:32 and had the best biking split of all women, 37:40.
Besides the 46 individuals in the 18th
annual event sponsored by Sun Valley Athletic Club, there were 18 teams for a
total of 98 participants.
Fastest team of all was the mixed group of
swimmer Diane Crumrine, biker Richard Feldman and runner Dave McBryant
(1.13:43).
Feldman just blew away the bicyclists with
a top time of 27:52. Michele Lowry had the best swimming split, 9:26, and Ryan
Still clocked the fastest running split, 26:29.
Placing second in a tough Sun Valley Sprint Triathlon Mixed Teams
category was the trio of, from left, professional golfer and Sunday cyclist
David Duval, lightning-quick swimmer Michele Lowry and not-so-bad-himself runner
Tim Mahoney. Express photo by Willy Cook
The race was dedicated to the memory of
Tom Montgomery, a triathlete and past competitor in the Sprint Triathlon.
Terry Crawford, a good friend of
Montgomery’s, did an excellent job organizing last weekend’s triathlon because
race organizer Bill Cantrell of Sun Valley Athletic Club was recovering from
knee surgery.
