Circuit champs crowned at Gooding rodeo
Fifth District finale
Last weekend’s Fifth District High School
rodeo finale in Gooding nailed down final standings of the circuit.
All-Around winners were Italy Jo Eames of
Gooding (311 points) over Reserve All-Around Cady Mae Coates of Gooding (251.5),
and Richie Dukes of Corral (165 points) over Cody Turner of Gooding (143).
Cassi Rushton of Bellevue was district
rodeo queen. First runner-up was Sarah Pierson of Gooding.
For the two-day Gooding rodeo alone, there
were all-around winners.
All-Around girls for the first and second
go-rounds were "Rookie of the Year" Katie Garcin of Gooding (30) and Malerie
Born (29). Reserves were Eames (28) and Hailey Harris (25).
All-Around boys for the go-rounds were
Richie Dukes (25) and Ted Walker of Glenns Ferry (19). Reserves were Jared
Telford (17), Cody Turner (17) and Tyler Brown (17).
Carey and Wood River rodeo hands did well
at Gooding.
Wood River freshman Kortnee Hurless
(21.095 and 21.110 seconds) won both pole bending go-rounds and finished the
spring circuit as the state-qualifying pole bending queen.
Carey freshman Amanda Hill won the first
go in barrel racing and was fourth in the first pole bending. Carey junior Julee
Hill placed fourth in breakaway roping.
Amanda Hill finished third in the pole
bending season standings, and tied for fifth in barrel racing overall.
Natalia Ferris and Ashley Smith of Wood
River finished in the top two of cow cutting at Prescott’s Arena.
